Enzo Lee, 37, a burned out reporter, has forsaken investigative reporting on the East Coast to churn out feature fluff in San Francisco. He likes his North Beach apartment, steps away from his Chinatown roots. Running, tai chi, great food, women who are attracted to his exotic looks. Life is good.
Then, Lee's comfortable life is shaken when he is ordered to cover the unexplained deaths of a local judge and prosecutor. Intrigued by the connection, and the judge's attractive niece, Sarah Armstrong, Lee begins to uncover a bioterrorism scandal whose perpetrators - including government officials and Silicon Valley titans - will kill to conceal.

Project Moses A Mystery Thriller Robert B Lowe 9780615614151 Books Reviews
Think Pelican Brief, Conspiracy Theory, and Outbreak combined into one book. A once burned reported doing a snarky fluff column gets asked to cover a police officer's death and then a judge's death. The niece of said judge takes umbrage with his statements about her aunt. While watching her walk across the street outside his office, he sees a van try to run her down. This starts him on a journey that will take him from Coast to Coast, running from everyone from the Rogue government agents down. As the body count rises, so do the stakes.
At first, I thought this story would be similar to the Pelican Brief or Outbreak, but this story stands on its own against others in the genre. The tension stretches deliciously from one chapter to the next building to the brilliant climax. My only niggle of problem with the story was that the ending was so tragic. While I appreciate a tragic ending, in this case it seemed like a low blow.
I give this story 4 out of 5 clouds. A good read.

I never felt deeply involved with the plot and the wanton killings but was drawn pleasantly through the tale by a desire to see the hero and heroine through to the end. It wasn't that I am not prepared to see numerous victims of violence but because death often seemed an easy solution to a more calculated and sophisticated plot line. Most of the killings appeared unnecessary to make the point that these were nasty violent people; fewer killings of characters with whom we were given more opportunity to become familiar would better have served the authors purposes. On the other hand, the author draws a sympathetic and more detailed portrait of the hero, providing a satisfactory image with whom to identify. The heroine is also congenial if less well delineated. The plot is of a standard conspiracy type, involving plague, crop disease, errant public officials, malignant businessmen, and assorted dupes and murderous henchmen. Happily, the author stops short of sadistic violence thus keeping the book within the realm of acceptability for the general reader.
All in all, a decent read, and the possibility that many who drink at the well now will be drawn to later volumes which I would expect to be better constructed.
Although this was an excellent concept, and I enjoyed reading most of it, it had one glaring fault which is why I only gave it three stars. There was so much irrelevant description that I could only think it was meant to pad out a story to make it longer. Does The author get paid by the word? There are a few other big-name authors who do the same thing and I find it quite annoying. Why is it necessary to describe in detail every morsel of food being eaten and every aspect of clothing that a person wears? If this is meant to give me a picture of the character it does nothing for me and I just feel The author is pushing at me. Otherwise I would have given this book 4 1/2 or perhaps even five stars as it truly was a good story but not in the realm of total excellence.
The plot line was well thought out and multi-layered. The author's knowledge of law made it believable. Well done!
I wish I had cared more for Enzo. I needed reason early on to connect with him. That he had stepped back from hard-line reporting to fluff, hurt my opinion of him.
Also, I found the book too easy to set aside. The suspense didn't grab me as much as I wanted. Perhaps the omniscient point-of-view was too distancing for my tastes, though I see that the novel has been highly reviewed by others who are probably less bothered by this style.
I recommend this book to those who like political intrigue in a thriller. Those more interested in psychological suspense might be less enthralled.
Overall, for a first novel, this was good work. I can tell that a lot of planning and hard work went into it.
Generally, this is a well-written book, and I was enjoying it--until the author found it necessary to insert some graphic sex, which just ruined it for me. It seemed to go on for pages and pages, too, so I didn't bother just skipping that part to get on with the story. (I very much resent being turned into a voyeur by an author!) I deleted the entire book from my device, and will also from my library. I wouldn't have purchased it, at all, in the first place, if there had been some warning in the item description about that particular content. (Some of the reviews DO mention it, but they seem to have been published after I purchased the book.) What a waste of my very limited time! >-(
